Report: Eric Weddle encouraged Adam Gase to sign C.J. Mosley

C.J. Mosley’s former teammate Eric Weddle might have played a role in the linebacker coming to the Jets.

Mosley was Adam Gase’s No. 1 target in free agency throughout the offseason and the Jets locked him up with a mega five-year deal worth $85 million. While Gase knew what he was getting all along with Mosley, Weddle made sure Gase knew it was all true.

“His reputation is no secret around the NFL,” Gase said in an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. “People know. Eric Weddle actually texted me when we were in free agency and laid it out—’Do whatever you gotta do to get this guy, this guy is a stud.’ [Weddle] had just signed with L.A., and it was great to get confirmation on the things we’d already heard.”

Gase has always been a big fan of Mosley’s. Since he has arrived, Gase has described Mosley as a culture-changer. He brings leadership on and off the field and has the ability to be a game-changing player, too.

The 26-year-old linebacker has been an absolute stud since coming into the league in 2014 out of Alabama. Mosley has recorded over 100 tackles in all but one season as he enters his sixth season. He can also play in coverage, as he has 35 pass defenses and nine interceptions for his career.

The Jets are counting on Mosley to lead a group that hasn’t done a ton of winning in recent years. Mosley has been in the playoffs twice in his career and knows exactly what it takes to have a winning team.

The Jets are now hoping he can lead them in that direction.
