Report: Edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney to miss Texans minicamp

The saga continues as the Houston Texans and edge defender Jadeveon Clowney fail to reach an agreement on a contract extension.

According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Pro Bowler will not report for the club’s veteran minicamp starting Tuesday.

Isn’t Clowney crazy? Won’t he get fined? After all, even Darren Hambrick can tell you, veteran minicamp is not voluntary.

Technically, Clowney is still a free agent of sorts; he is a player without a contract. By the Texans designating him as a player who will be tagged, the Texans basically have his negotiating rights. The tag won’t go into full effect until July 15 at 3:00 p.m. Central Time. Until then, Clowney is an unsigned player, and he cannot be fined for missing mandatory veteran minicamp.

Like during the three weeks of organized team activities, expect Bill O’Brien to coach the players who are present.
