Report: Eagles VP Joe Douglas to interview for Jets GM job as soon as this weekend

After spending the past week issuing requests to interview, the Jets will finally have the chance to speak with their top candidate to replace Mike Maccagnan as soon as this weekend.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Eagles Vice President of player personnel Joe Douglas is tentatively scheduled to interview for New York’s general manager position next week. Yahoo’s Charles Robinson says that Douglas is slated to interview with the Jets this weekend.

Regardless of when Douglas meets with the Jets, his interview is a key point in New York’s search for a new general manager. Douglas is thought of as the top candidate for the position and his familiarity with Adam Gase would make him an ideal hire.

However, Douglas will reportedly only accept the job if he is granted complete control over the Jets’ 53-man roster. If New York is not willing to give Douglas this authority, odds are he will remain with the Eagles and the Jets will have to continue their search elsewhere.

New York kicks off its series of interviews on Thursday with Seattle Seahawks Co-Director of player personnel Scott Fitterer. The Jets will also talk to Chicago Bears executive Champ Kelly, although an interview has not yet been scheduled.

If all goes well with Douglas, New York’s general manager search will be coming to an end sooner rather than later. Either way, Douglas’ interview will serve as a turning point in Gang Green’s search for a new shot caller in the front office.
