Report: Eagles to give former Air Force safety Weston Steelhammer a tryout at rookie minicamp

If the name is any indication of his skill-set, then former Air Force safety Weston Steelhammer could make a name for himself in Philadelphia over the next few weeks.

Steelhammer, a three-time first-team all-Mountain West selection, confirmed his invite to The Gazette’s Brent Briggeman on Wednesday evening.

“Honestly, we just wanted a chance,” Steelhammer told The Gazette. “We’ve got one now — just need to make the most of it.”

Steelhammer was a draft prospect after the 2017 season, but because of his commitment to the Air Force, Steelhammer and his fellow Air Force grads had to serve at least two years on active duty before being allowed to chase his NFL dream.

Steelhammer was an active safety at Air Force, collecting 18 interceptions and bolstering his stock with a 4.7-second 40-yard dash and had a 33-inch vertical leap at the Air Force pro day.

The Eagles rookie minicamp goes from May 9-12, and Steelhammer could earn the right to continue participating in OTAs, while possibly getting a training camp invite as well.
