Report: Eagles ‘pretty likely’ to play Vikings on Thanksgiving in 2019

The Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings have played some meaningful games over the past two seasons and it looks like the NFL is prepared to turn round three into a Thursday night, primetime matchup. According to John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal, a Thanksgiving night matchup between the Eagles and the Minnesota Vikings is “pretty likely” to happen next season he reported on the SI media podcast (via the Star Tribune).

Here’s an interesting nugget from the SI media podcast that was posted on Wednesday: Host Jimmy Traina and guest John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal were talking about the NFL schedule and specifically Thanksgiving games when Traina asked Ourand about the nightcap finale of the three-game slate. “I didn’t actually write about this but I have heard that Minnesota vs. Philadelphia is one that’s in play,” Ourand said around the 32-minute mark, adding later: “It’s not dead set, but I’m told that it’s pretty likely.”

The two teams have played in some intense matchups in recent years, with the Eagles causing heartbreak after Philadelphia defeated Minnesota in the 2018 NFC Championship Game, ruining the Vikings’ chances of being the first team to host and play in a Super Bowl.

The Eagles, of course, would go on to win Super Bowl LII in Minnesota defeating the mighty New England Patriots.

This past season the Vikings got a little revenge with a 23-21 win over the Eagles at Lincoln Financial Field. That momentum was ruined after a late-season collapse by Minnesota allowed the Eagles to clinch a second consecutive playoff berth and win over the hated, Chicago Bears.
