Report: Eagles meet with Iowa State RB David Montgomery at NFL Combine

The Eagles utilize a running back by committee and many pundits and critics of the organization believe it’s time for Howie Roseman to use a high draft pick on a dynamic running back. The Eagles haven’t spent a day 1 or day 2 pick on a running back since 2009 when the team selected the franchises all-time leading rusher, LeSean McCoy in the second round.

The Birds are reportedly monitoring some of the big names in the 2018 draft class, and according to Mike Kaye of NJ Advance Media, the team met with talented Iowa State running back David Montgomery.

Montgomery just finished an impressive two-year stretch with the Cyclones in which he amassed 2,945 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns while catching 71 passes for 582 receiving yards.

Montgomery should appeal to the Eagles, because of his dual-threat ability that could see him on the field for all three downs, while being utilized in the passing game heavily.

Jay Ajayi and Darren Sproles are both set to become free agents in March and the most talented running back on the roster, Corey Clement is coming off a season-ending knee injury.

Montgomery is projected as a second or third round pick and could be an option to start at running back on opening night.
