Report: Eagles made offer for Chargers RB Melvin Gordon

On Tuesday night, ESPN’s Josina Anderson reported that there was one team that was in preliminary talks with the Chargers to acquire running back Melvin Gordon.

The club remained to be seen until this morning. According to the MMQB’s Albert Breer, the Eagles were the only team in recent days to show interest in Gordon.

Philadelphia offered Los Angeles running back Jordan Howard and a swap of mid-round draft picks in exchange for the former Wisconsin product.

The trade talks were more conceptual than serious on the Eagles’ end and the Bolts denied the offer.

Philadelphia appears to be content with their backfield depth which features rookie Miles Sanders, Corey Clement and Darren Sprites.

The Chargers are currently seeking a 2020 first-round draft selection or a 2020 fifth-round and 2021 first-round draft pick.

Philadelphia knows that they will have to dish out more to acquire Gordon, considering they will have to also pay the 26-year old running back the money he is wishing to receive.

Because of that, that’s why their original offer was lower than what Los Angeles is seeking. The asking price is considered to be high, so it’ll be a matter of a team meeting that or the Bolts will need to lower their expectations.
