Report: Eagles made effort to acquire Melvin Gordon via trade for Jordan Howard

Despite some objective from fans and experts around the league, it appears the Philadelphia Eagles have done their due diligence on running back Melvin Gordon, even making an offer. Albert Breer of THE Monday Morning Quarterback is reporting that Howie Roseman offered LA Jordan Howard and the swap of mid-round picks for Gordon, and the Chargers balked at the deal.

The Eagles interest in Gordon speaks volumes about how the team feels about rookie running back Miles Sanders, and with Howard set to hit free agency next spring, it was a gamble worth taking by Roseman, who inquires about any player that can help the Eagles.

It’ll be interesting to see how Howard reacts to the rumors, and it probably won’t be the last time his name comes up. Corey Clement and Darren Sproles round out the Eagles’ RB depth chart and both could be playing elsewhere next season as well.

Chargers general manager Tom Telesco has already announced he won’t renegotiate Gordon’s contract until after the 2019 season, and teams aren’t going to surrender a huge haul for a guy that may not be on the roster next season.
