Report: Eagles had discussions with Josh McCown about joining coaching staff

The Philadelphia Eagles have been deliberate in replacing Mike Groh as offensive coordinator and according to Jeff McLane of The Inquirer, a familiar face could assume the role.

McLane is reporting that the Eagles have had initial discussions with Josh McCown about a possible role on Doug Pederson’s coaching staff.

There was no word on whether an offer was made or if McCown just had his interest gauged by the Eagles brass. The one thing we do know is that McCown has a brilliant football mind and could be a great offensive coach if he so chooses to take that route.

McCown reportedly isn’t ready to retire and could return to the Eagles as Carson Wentz’s backup if Nate Sudfeld isn’t retained in free agency.

McCown also reportedly had discussions with Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie as well, suggesting that the owner could have a huge hand in Pederson’s next offensive coordinator.
