Report: Dwayne Haskins puts in extra film study, workouts following benching in Washington

For a former first-round pick given a starting job in his first season, the public benching that Dwayne Haskins was subjected to following his Week 4 performance against the Cleveland Browns was likely one of the low-points of his career. With three interceptions and a loss in his recent memory, Haskins was cast to the side by his new coaching staff and told that he wasn’t ready, while the national media looked on to see Kyle Allen take the reigns, with Alex Smith stepping in as the backup.

Since that public shaming, reports show that Haskins has taken it upon himself to go through extra film study, as well as taking on extra workouts and practice outside of team events due to a lack of repetitions in practice.

For Haskins, repetition is key as he needs to gain as much experience and practice as possible. It is unclear when he will return to the field, and if he will ever play again in Washington, but the injury to Allen leaves the door open for Haskins. Ron Rivera said after the game on Sunday that it will be Alex Smith who gets the start going forward, but there is absolutely a chance that Haskins gets the call once again to step under center and show us what he’s got. If he can prove that he learned a few things while essentially being put in time-out, there is still a possibility that he could be the guy for Washington going forward for the next few years.
