Report: Draymond Green and D’Angelo Russell out against Hornets

The Golden State Warriors will be without Draymond Green and D’Angelo Russell on Saturday night against the Charlotte Hornets, per The Athletic’s Anthony Slater.

Green is out with a left index finger injury that he suffered Friday against the San Antonio Spurs. Russell is out with an ankle sprain, an injury he also suffered during the Spurs game. Per Slater, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said Green will miss the next few games.

With Green out, rookie Eric Paschall will start in his place. Ky Bowman will start in Russell’s place at point guard.

Through the first five games, the Warriors’ season has been in a downward spiral. Steph Curry suffered a broken left hand injury against the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday, and he’s reportedly out at least three months, per NBC Sports Bay Area.

Before Curry’s injury, the Warriors had dropped two out of their first three games, as the young team has struggled to find cohesion on both ends of the floor.

Three of the Warriors’ starters for Saturday’s game are 22 or younger, and none of them are older than 26. Glenn Robinson is in his sixth season and has the most experience out of the group.

Willie Cauley-Stein, 26, is in his fifth season. The rest of the starters — Bowman, Paschall and Jordan Poole — are all rookies.

With Golden State being a young team, this game against the Hornets will be a chance for the rookies and other inexperienced players to show what they can do.
