Report: Dolphins’ Week 6 contest with Broncos to be rescheduled

The Miami Dolphins have officially felt their first impact of the COVID-19 pandemic this season — just not in the way we might have expected. There are no positive tests for the Dolphins this morning and the team is all set to take the field this afternoon to play the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5. But the Dolphins’ Week 6 contest against the Denver Broncos is now reportedly going to be rescheduled.

That news broke this morning courtesy of ESPN’s Adam Schefter as the NFL scrambles to try to jigsaw together an amended schedule as the New England Patriots, Denver’s scheduled Week 5 opponent, battle a handful of positive tests for COVID-19.

Miami’s impact is third-hand — not even the Broncos are hurt by the end virus in this scenario. But never the less, Miami’s scheduled trip to Denver has been postponed until further notice. Miami’s current bye week is scheduled for Week 11 — the NFL will need to continue to juggle the schedule beyond just pushing the Denver/Miami game as the Broncos do not share a joint bye with the Dolphins.

For Miami, the shuffling may result in a different opponent being moved up to Week 6 instead if the league can piece together the scheduling to make logistics fit. We’ll have to stay tuned as this story is sure to develop quickly with the NFL due to play a full slate of games this afternoon.
