Report: Dolphins signing C Austin Reiter off Saints’ practice squad

The Dolphins have started the season 1-3, including their most recent loss Sunday to a previously winless Colts team.

Part of the blame can be put on Tua Tagovailoa’s rib injury that has kept him out of action since Week 2. However, a fair helping of the blame pie belongs to inconsistent play along the offensive line.

To address this issue, Miami has signed center Austin Reiter off of the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Reiter agreed to join the Saints’ practice squad back in September after going through the offseason unsigned. Prior to his quick stint in New Orleans, the 29-year-old spent two seasons in Cleveland and three with the Chiefs, playing in both runs to the Super Bowl with Kansas City.

In his last two seasons with the Chiefs, Reiter played 89% of possible snaps while receiving an 82.0 pass-blocking grade in 2019 and a 78.3 in 2020 from Pro Football Focus.

Against the Colts this past week, the Dolphins trotted out Greg Mancz at center after Michael Deiter got the opportunities the first three weeks.

Miami surprisingly cut veteran Matt Skura who they had signed this offseason after David Andrews and Ted Karras, two of their top options, both signed with New England.

Reiter might not be the immediate answer, but veteran leadership and consistency must help.
