Report: Dolphins make a couple of new assistant coaching hires

According to Field Yates of ESPN, the Dolphins are officially hiring Patriots wide receiver coach Chad O’Shea as their new offensive coordinator. The Dolphins are also hiring former wide receiver Tiquan Underwood as their offensive quality control coach Yates reported.

Now that Brian Flores has been officially hired as their head coach, the Dolphins are not beginning to fill out their coaching staff. So not only does Flores coming over from the Patriots, it appears O’Shea will do so as well.

Speaking of O’Shea, he began his coaching career with the Chiefs in 2003 as a volunteer assistant. He then spent three seasons with the Chiefs before moving on to the Vikings in 2006 as an offensive assistant.

In 2009, O’Shea became the Patriots wide receivers coach. During that time, O’Shea coached players such as Wes Welker, Julian Edelman, and Danny Amendola, who is currently with the Dolphins.

As for Underwood, he played five seasons in the NFL with the Jaguars, Patriots, Buccaneers and the Panthers. After he was released during the 2014 preseason, Underwood played three seasons in the CFL for the Hamilton Tiger Cats and the Montreal Alouettes (2009-14). In 2018, Underwood was the wide receivers coach at Lafayette College.
