Report: Dolphins expected to be one of “biggest factors” in trade talk

Everyone knows that the Miami Dolphins are going to be a critical presence in the 2020 NFL Draft. With three picks in the first round and six picks in the top 70 overall selections, the Dolphins will have every opportunity to put their finger prints all over the early rounds of the Draft.

But how assertive will the Dolphins choose to be? Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report claims one NFC general manager told him that the Dolphins are “extremely active” in having discussions with other teams regarding the draft.

On one hand, this could be smoke — just like everything else that comes out this week in Indianapolis. Teams would certainly benefit from leaking such a claim — as it might help them leverage trade discussions with other teams who feel threatened by Miami’s presence in the trade market. With Miami having so much draft capital at their disposal, the 2020 offseason marks a rare change for the Dolphins — they’re inevitably going to be a bystander in the leveraging techniques of other teams instead of being a victim of the pressure play.

But on the other hand, this isn’t the first time we’ve heard that the Dolphins may be aggressive in more ways in one. That extends well beyond the quarterback situations, too — as the Dolphins will be on the hunt for offensive linemen, pass rushers and cornerbacks too. And the decision the Dolphins will be faced with is whether or not six picks is more valuable than three picks higher in the draft order.

Dolphins fans are simply along for the ride at this point, but they’d be wise to take everything at this point in the process with a grain of salt. And hope the Dolphins have learned from past mistakes as they embark on this roster rebuild.
