Report: DL David Irving signing with Raiders

Last week, former Cowboys pass rusher David Irving was reinstated by the NFL from his suspension that had him out of football for two years. That made him a unrestricted free agent, able to sign with any team. Immediately it was obvious that no team made more sense for him to sign with than the Raiders and I noted as such.

Well, the obvious landing spot has turned into his actual landing spot according to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle.

Irving re-joins Rod Marinelli with whom he put up 7.0 sacks in 8 games in 2017.

The 27-year-old has played just two games since that season and hasn’t played a down of NFL football since 2018 because of multiple suspensions for violating the league’s policy on substance abuse.

Irving’s vice was marijuana, and since his suspension began the league has put in place a new CBA which no longer suspends players for testing positive for marijuana. So, he’s back, and it took less than a week for the Raiders to sign him, adding some much-needed pass rush to the mix.
