Report: Derrick Henry signs franchise tender, Titans still working on long-term deal

Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry has reportedly signed his franchise tag tender on Thursday.

The news comes from ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Dianna Russini, who also note that Henry and the Titans are still working on a long-term deal.

The Titans placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on the running back after the two sides were unable to come to a long-term contract agreement prior to the start of free agency.

During a conference call on Wednesday, general manager Jon Robinson made it clear that the franchise tag did not hurt contract discussions and that he has remained in contact with Henry’s agent throughout the offseason. Both sides are interested in working something out.

Whether or not a deal ultimately gets done remains to be seen, but the Titans have until July 15 to hammer out a long-term deal with Henry or else he’ll have to play on the franchise tag for 2020, which would pay Henry $10.2 million this upcoming season.
