Report: Denico Autry to generate a lot of interest in free agency

The Indianapolis Colts are seemingly letting their free agents test the market before the team gives them a formal offer, which includes defensive end Denico Autry.

According to Jim Ayello of The Indianapolis Star, Autry will have plenty of suitors waiting for him in free agency. Ayello reported up to five teams being among those with interest in the veteran defensive lineman. The Colts are also expected to remain in the mix to re-sign Autry.

In fact, according to a league source with specific knowledge about Autry, despite a crowded defensive line market, Autry is expected to draw significant interest at the outset of the new league year. At least five teams, the New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens, New England Patriots, Carolina Panthers and Buffalo Bills, are expected to show interest.

The Colts, per a second league source, are expected to remain in the mix for his services, though there’s little chance of a deal being struck before free agency begins Wednesday.

Autry has been a solid performer for the Colts ever since he joined the team in 2018. He’s a versatile piece working at both the edge and on the interior and out-produced the three-year contract he signed back then.

The Colts need help on the edge so bringing back Autry is still in the cards, but we also know that Chris Ballard is content in being outbid if that price goes above the range they have on a player. If Autry gets significant money—more than what the Colts are offering—Ballard will let him walk.

We are getting closer to free agency so there is less speculation coming but Autry should have plenty of suitors on the market.
