Report: Defensive tackle Shamar Stephen heading back to Minnesota

Seahawks defensive tackle Shamar Stephen is headed back to Minnesota after one season in Seattle. ESPN’s Dan Graziano is reporting Stephen is re-signing with the Vikings on a three-year deal.

The Seahawks snagged Stephen last March as a free agent, acquiring fellow teammate and defensive lineman Tom Johnson as well. Johnson was released shortly after the start of the regular season and Stephen will now re-join him on the Vikings’ squad.

In 15 games played for Seattle last season, Stephen logged 25 combined tackles and two sacks. He was originally selected by the Vikings in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL draft.

As of this post, Stephen is the third Seahawks free agent expected to sign deals elsewhere at the start of free agency. Running back Mike Davis is reported to be heading to Bears on a two-year contract and cornerback Justin Coleman will be suiting up for the Lions as the leagues’ highest-paid nickel.
