Report: David Johnson expected to miss games vs. Saints, 49ers

Arizona Cardinals running back David Johnson was only able to play three snaps last week against the New York Giants after initially being expected to be available for the whole game. However, it was expected to be in an emergency role, according to coach Kliff Kingsbury.

He was unable to practice this week leading up to the Cardinals’ Week 8 game against the New Orleans Saints. Officially, he is questionable for the game. However, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Johnson will miss the game against the Saints on Sunday. That isn’t it, though. He is also expected to miss the Cardinals’ Week 9 game Thursday night against the San Francisco 49ers.

With no Johnson, it means Chase Edmonds will carry the offensive load. In Week 7 against the Giants, he ran the ball 27 times for 126 yards and three touchdowns, and caught two passes for 24 yards.

This week, he should see a similar workload, although the Cardinals also signed Alfred Morris and Zach Zenner, who can spell him if needed.

This season, Johnson has rushed for 300 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 3.9 yards per attempt. He also has caught 30 passes for 315 yards and three scores.

In Week 10, the Cardinals take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on the road.
