Report: Daryl Williams’ 1-year deal with the Panthers is worth $7 million

Ian Rapoport at NFL Network is reporting that offensive tackle Daryl Williams’ new one-year deal with the Panthers is worth $7 million.

Williams was about to become a free agent. Instead, Carolina keeps him in town for less than half what it would have cost to use the franchise tag on Williams for 2019.

This move, in addition to the reported signing of center Matt Paradis is likely to be all the team does during the first wave of free agency. There may be another minor name or two in the next few weeks, but Paradis and Williams are probably the only big ticket items.

Remember, the Panthers started out just $17 million under the cap going into this period. Unless they clear out a lot more room, they won’t be players in free agency any longer.
