Report: Daniel Jones gathers Giants for workouts in Texas

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones initially had plans to hold workouts at Duke University this spring and summer, but the coronavirus pandemic put the kibosh on that.

However, Jones remained undeterred and the New York Post reports that the quarterback was able to achieve his offseason goal in Texas, where the state has begun to reopen after months of being under lock-down orders.

Last week and again this week, Jones brought the group together in Austin, Texas, The Post has learned. The arrangements were helped along by Colt McCoy, the former University of Texas quarterback, who signed this season with the Giants and has strong connections to his alma mater.

Wide receivers Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton and tight end Kaden Smith were among what was described as “a pretty good group of guys” in attendance during the two weeks of sessions, which included plenty of football and also a fair amount of golf.

Veteran wide receiver Golden Tate and running back Saquon Barkley were also among those in attendance, and the group of upwards of 20 players worked on routes and schemes designed by offensive coordinator Jason Garrett.

This is just the latest example of leadership being displayed by Jones, who will be entering his second NFL season in 2020. Previously, Jones released a powerful statement in support of Black Lives Matter and has also taken control during team meetings.

The Giants’ virtual offseason program ends on Friday and the team will not return to East Rutherford until training camp, which is currently scheduled for the end of July.
