Report: Damar Hamlin Set to Take Final Step in Remarkable NFL Comeback

After starting the season as a healthy inactive player, beloved Bills safety Damar Hamlin’s long-awaited return to action is reportedly set to come to fruition in Week 4.

Hamlin, 25, is currently in line to take the field for his 2023 debut, with safety Jordan Poyer (knee) out for Sunday’s contest against the Dolphins, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Friday.

Barring an unforeseen change, the anticipated matchup will mark the final step in Hamlin’s remarkable comeback from suffering sudden cardiac arrest in a Jan. 2 game against the Bengals that was eventually canceled.

Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin is reportedly expected to make his 2023 season debut in Week 4.

An inspiring, monthslong road to recovery garnered Hamlin, who missed Buffalo’s last three games, critical acclaim and praise around the world, a captivating story now set to continue in the regular season five months after the third-year pro received clearance to play.

As of Friday, it’s unclear if Hamlin will start in Poyer’s place, though he figures to see playing time in a potential shootout. In his 29 career games, the 2021 sixth-round pick has accumulated 93 tackles, four pass deflections and 1.5 sacks.
