Report: Da’Mari Scott requested release from Giants

The New York Giants waived second-year wide receiver Da’Mari Scott on Wednesday, just a few months after claiming him off of waivers from the Buffalo Bills.

With no corresponding transaction, the decision to part ways with Scott seemed admittedly curious, especially given the number of injuries and suspensions the Giants are dealing with at the wide receiver position.

However, it’s now become clear as to why Scott was sent packing — it’s what he wanted.

ESPN’s Jordan Raanan reports that Scott had requested his release so that he could seek opportunities elsewhere.

Although Scott had showed some promise this summer, it was unlikely that he’d make the final 53-man roster with so many other receivers stepping up and making an impact this preseason.

In all likelihood, Scott would have landed on the Giants’ practice squad, but he felt he would bring more value to a team elsewhere.
