Report: Cowboys Pro Bowl CB Byron Jones won’t start vs. Giants

The Dallas Cowboys are relatively healthy entering a Week 1 matchup with the New York Giants when you consider their injury report had run 12 deep, but that’s not to say they aren’t dealing with some dings and dents.

Safeties Darian Thompson (ankle) and Donovan Wilson (ankle), and linebacker Luke Gifford (ankle) will each be among the team’s inactives on Sunday.

Additionally, Dallas could be without Pro Bowl cornerback Byron Jones, who is coming off of an offseason hip surgery and will not start.

Jones practiced in full all week and did not appear on the team’s injury report, which suggests the Cowboys are merely being careful with one of their superstar defensive players and believe they can handle the Giants’ offense in his absence.

While Jones is expected to dress, there are no specifics as it relates to a potential pitch count. It’s possible he sees the field if the Cowboys secondary is found to be struggling against the Giants, but if not, it could be a complete day off.

With Jones limited, Anthony Brown, Jourdan Lewis and C.J. Goodwin will all see additional snaps.

Finally, Cowboys defensive end Taco Charlton, who suffered a sprained ankle during the preseason, is also expected to be inactive on Sunday.
