Report: Cowboys Agree to Contract Terms With RB Ronald Jones II

The Cowboys appear to have secured some reinforcements in the backfield after it was revealed earlier this month that they plan to part ways with longtime running back Ezekiel Elliott.

According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Dallas has agreed to a deal with two-time Super Bowl champion running back Ronald Jones II. Jones visited with the Cowboys on Monday and is now poised to join the team in 2023.

The terms of Jones’s deal with Dallas are not yet known.

Jones, a former second-round pick in 2018, played in six games for the Chiefs last season. In Kansas City, he spent most of his time in a reserve role, amassing just 70 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries during his appearances.

Prior to his time with the Chiefs, Jones played for the Buccaneers for four seasons. His best campaign with the NFC South franchise came back in 2020 when he racked up 978 rushing yards and seven touchdowns during the regular season, serving a key role on Tampa Bay’s championship team.

Jones, 25, will look to resurrect his career with the Cowboys, who were looking to bolster their backfield with Elliott on his way out of The Star. Dallas already placed the franchise tag on 2022 Pro Bowler Tony Pollard, paving the way for him to become the starter, but will surely turn to Jones and rising second-year ballcarrier Malik Davis when needed next season.
