Report: Cordarrelle Patterson intends to leave Patriots for Bears

New England Patriots wide receiver and kick returner Cordarrelle Patterson will sign with the Chicago Bears on a two-year, $10 million deal in free agency, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Patterson’s departure leaves New England with Julian Edelman as the only sure thing at wide receiver for now. New England placed a second-round tender on Josh Gordon, who is a restricted free agent. That should be enough to keep him in New England. Meanwhile, Chris Hogan and Phillip Dorsett are testing free agency.

During his lone season with the Patriots in 2018, Patterson served as the team’s primary kick returner, as well as a gadget player at both running back and receiver. He returned 23 kicks for 663 yards and a touchdown; his 28.8-yard average ranked third in the NFL.

On offense, he finished the season with 21 receptions for 247 yards and three touchdowns, along with 42 rushes for 228 yards and a touchdown.

With his departure, Bears offensive guru Matt Nagy will steal a toy away from Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
