Report: Colts ‘won’t act out of desperation’ for QB

The Indianapolis Colts have several moves to ponder this offseason, especially when it comes to potentially trading up in the 2023 NFL draft for a quarterback.

After the Carolina Panthers gave up a haul to move up eight spots to the No. 1 overall pick, it’s likely that the Colts will be getting a crack at the third quarterback on the board.

But we shouldn’t be expecting them to make any outlandish moves to trade up as they reportedly don’t feel there is a “generational” type of prospect in this class, according to Zak Keefer of The Athletic.

The term “generational” gets used far too often, but the Colts apparently don’t see this class as having a true consensus No. 1 pick. Many analysts believe C.J. Stroud and Bryce Young will be going with the first two picks, which means the Colts could have their sights set on Anthony Richardson or Will Levis.

The main question the Colts face now is whether they want to move up to the No. 3 spot in a trade with the Arizona Cardinals. Overpaying to move up one spot would fall in line with a desperation move, but it would secure them one of the top three quarterback prospects.

Instead, they run the risk of another team jumping them at No. 3 and taking the quarterback they like.

We have a month and a half until the first round of the 2023 NFL draft arrives so there will be plenty of questions as to what the Colts will do with the No. 4 pick in terms of staying put or moving up.
