Report: Colts were among finalists for Preston Smith

The Indianapolis Colts will be looking to find some pass rush help this offseason, and they reportedly were among the finalists for free agent edge rusher Preston Smith.

While the Colts have been expectedly quiet during the initial wave of free agency, Smith was one of the pass rushers Indy was thought to be high on given his fit, versatility and likely price in the market.

It appears they were the other team Smith was considering before he signed with the Green Bay Packers, per Josina Anderson of ESPN.

Smith seemed like a solid fit for a Colts defense that needs pass rush help. His length and motor off the edge would have worked well in Matt Eberflus’ one-gap front.

Indy will now turn its attention to the other pass rushers on the market, but we now know they were close to signing Smith in free agency.
