Report: Colts to meet with Penn State RB Miles Sanders

The Indianapolis Colts have made it known how much they believe in their backfield, but they are still a team that could add to the unit during the 2019 NFL Draft at the end of the month.

Among the players the Colts are reportedly doing their homework on is Penn State’s Miles Sanders, who has a meeting upcoming with Indy, per Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle.

Here’s what Lance Zierlein had to say about Sanders, who is projected to be a Day 2 pick:

Well-built glider with the instincts, footwork and agility to shake tacklers but the frame and pad level to finish with some authority. He can clearly create yardage for himself, but he has average acceleration and might need to expedite his downhill process as a pro. Sanders is more skilled than explosive, but he has the size and talent to develop into a future starter with every-down potential.

The Colts have said all offseason they believe Marlon Mack is a three-down player, but the rotation is still going to be used in Frank Reich’s offense, which could explain why Indy has been seemingly in the market for a running back.

Adding to the room during the draft shouldn’t be a major surprise at this point. Where they will do so remains to be seen, but it appears they will at least be doing their homework on Sanders.

Sanders took 220 carries for 1,274 yards (5.8 avg) and nine touchdowns during the 2018 season.
