The Indianapolis Colts are in the full swing of free agency as the new league year has officially begun, but the work for the 2019 NFL draft is becoming ever more crucial as the days pass.
The Colts will have representatives at most of the pro day’s around the country, and one player they have reportedly shown interest in is Colorado safety Evan Worthington, per Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst.
Safety Evan Worthington, who also participated in the Shrine Game and worked out at the combine, timed the 40 between 4.55 and 4.59 before his hamstring tightened up. That’s a major improvement from his official combine time of 4.63 seconds.
It should be noted Worthington completed everything at the combine and timed 7.07 in the three-cone.
He’s drawing a lot of interest from the Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans and Indianapolis Colts. The New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers also spent time with Worthington during pro day.
The Colts didn’t bring in any of the big names at the safety position during the legal tampering period, and it remains to be seen which free agents they might have an eye on signing.
Even if they were to sign a free agent safety, adding to the position is something of an objective during the draft at the end of April. They are a number of prospects that would fit well in the Colts’ defensive scheme, which typically features a lot of two-high looks.
A likely Day 3 pick, Worthington might be someone to keep an eye on if the Colts decide against adding to the position early in the draft.
