Report: Colts have shown interest in RB Alexander Mattison

The Indianapolis Colts have just a few weeks left until they enter the 2019 NFL Draft, which is the event they’ve been waiting for throughout the entire offseason.

As the pre-draft process moves along, the Colts will be reportedly showing interest in several prospects. All of the reports should be taken with a grain of salt, however, regardless of how widespread it might get.

Still, the Colts reportedly have shown some interest in Boise
State running back Alexander Mattison, per Tony Pauline of Draft Analyst.

Mattison “receiving interest” from the Colts can mean a lot of things. They could have simply met with him an asked some questions or the interest can be real. It’s likely that we’ll never know.

Here’s what Lance Zierlein of NFL.com had to stay about Mattison’s game:

Productive, willful runner whose combination of functional patience and aggressive urgency helped him find his niche as an every-down workhorse. While he has the ability to create yards for himself with adequate elusiveness and power, he’s not a slasher or banger by NFL standards and he lacks burst to produce chunk plays on a regular basis. Mattison is a jack-of-all-trades backup with the ability to step into a heavy-duty role if called upon. His talent as a pass-catcher could move him up the RB food-chain.

The Colts love their backfield. The unit being led by Marlon Mack, who averaged 4.7 yards per carry in 2018, isn’t expected to see major changes during the draft.

The Colts don’t necessarily need to add to the backfield this offseason, but they are certainly doing their homework on the position for the draft.
