Report: Colts expected to be in QB market this offseason

The Indianapolis Colts are just two games away from shifting their focus fully to the upcoming offseason. What they will do at the quarterback position will dominate the next few months.

Whether they look toward the 2020 NFL Draft or other avenues such as free agency or trades remains to be seen. However, it does appear they will be in the market for a quarterback this offseason, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

[Jacoby] Brissett has had his moments, but he’s struggled recently. In his last five games, he only eclipsed an 80 passer rating once. Brissett is guaranteed $7 million next year, and he can make an additional $8 million. Still, expect the Colts to be in the quarterback market, perhaps significantly, in the draft to bolster the position.

Even this remains to be seen. The Colts love Brissett. They love what he brings to the field and they adore his leadership in the locker room. There is no denying his teammates love him as well. That could be a factor that leads the Colts into giving Brissett another year to prove himself.

There aren’t a whole lot of options for the Colts in free agency while the only potential trade target appears to be Cam Newton. The most likely avenue for the Colts to address the quarterback position is through the draft.

It should be an interesting offseason coming up—it certainly will be an important one. But it seems the Colts are at least interested in adding to the quarterback position.
