Colts’ Andrew Luck to announce retirement

In shocking news, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is retiring from the NFL at age 29, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

After years of dealing with injuries behind poor offensive lines, it appears the mental exhaustion has caused Luck to look more toward his future, which means ending his pro football career much shorter than anyone ever expected it to be.

Schefter has also reported that Luck has already met with Colts owner Jim Irsay, informing the team of his retirement.

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft has been an elite quarterback when on the field, but he has dealt with immense injuries throughout his career.

Luck found himself in a dark place during the 2017 season when he was trying to make his way back from shoulder surgery and the subsequent setback that forced him to miss the entire season.

Though he was thought to be healthy for 2019, Luck has been dealing with an injury that was first described as a high ankle issue but more recently as a calf injury. It appears the pain hasn’t gone away, and the mental wear has taken its toll.

It’s completely shocking for Luck to be ending his career after only six seasons on the field, but his body has undoubtedly been through a lot.
