Report: Colts among teams ‘most connected’ to LB C.J. Mosley

The Indianapolis Colts are inching closer to the new league year, which makes free agency official, and they are reportedly connected to Baltimore Ravens linebacker C.J. Mosley.

A strong run defender, Mosley is on the market drawing plenty of attention from potential suitors, and the Colts are reportedly among the teams “most connected” with the four-time Pro Bowl linebacker, per Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic.

What Zrebiec means by “connected” is up to interpretation. That could mean the Colts have simply been linked as a potential suitor given their immense salary cap space or it could mean the Colts are actually interested in the 27-year-old.

Regardless, the legal tampering period provides plenty of confusion and most reports should be taken with a grain of salt.

The Colts could afford the likely massive contract of Mosley despite the lack of need at the position. And while Chris Ballard has no issues stockpiling talent, it wouldn’t seem all that prudent to sign Mosley to a big deal when Indy has an All-Pro in Darius Leonard and an underrated star in Anthony Walker.

There is also an argument that Walker is just as good of a run defender as Mosley, if not slightly worse. But because he’s much cheaper, the Colts don’t have a need to dish out $14 million to Mosley.

It remains to be seen what will happen with Mosley’s deal. Though it is unclear how much interest the Colts have, if any at all, it is a development worth keeping an eye on over the coming days.
