Report: Colt McCoy undergoes third leg surgery, will miss Redskins OTAs

There is more quarterback news coming out of Washington, and as usual, it isn’t great.

According to NBC Sports Washington’s JP Finlay, backup QB Colt McCoy will miss OTAs this spring after having a third surgery on his broken leg.

McCoy had undergone two surgeries after breaking his fibula in December. The Redskins are already without starting QB Alex Smith after he broke his tibia and fibula just two weeks before McCoy. It was reported that McCoy was expected to be ready by OTAs, but Redskins coach Jay Gruden admitted that the team mishandled the injury treatment.

At the league meetings in March, Gruden explained why the setback occurred, per Finlay:

“What happened was when he had the injury we were aggressive trying to get him back on the field so fast we didn’t give it time enough to heal the right way, so they went back in and did a small procedure to make sure that thing is on track to be full strength by the season,” Gruden said.

With NFL draft week upon us, this is not the QB news that Redskins fans expected to hear.
