Report: Colin Kaepernick’s agent contacts Steelers, Jets, Saints

Several NFL teams are in need of a quality backup quarterback after a rash of injuries across the league in Week 2, and former 49ers star Colin Kapernick is reportedly getting in touch with QB-needy teams.

Steelers veteran Ben Roethlisberger’s season came to an end on Sunday due to an elbow injury, while the Jets are now forced to rely upon a third-string QB after Sam Darnold and Trevor Siemian were sidelined.

Panthers QB Cam Newton missed practice on Tuesday and was reportedly walking in a boot, while the Eagles saw Carson Wentz temporarily leave Sunday night’s game against the Falcons. In Los Angeles over the weekend, Drew Brees suffered a freak thumb injury that will require surgery.

According to ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, Kaepernick’s camp contacted the Steelers, Jets and Saints, but the teams either aren’t interested in the 31-year-old, or they didn’t respond entirely.

“I am being told that he has contacted – Colin Kaepernick’s agent and others – have contacted the Pittsburgh Steelers. Essentially they’re not interested. They’ve contacted the Jets, no word on them yet. They’ve contacted the Saints. They didn’t get their phone calls returned.”

Kaepernick shared a video of himself training with Odell Beckham Jr. earlier this month, and his running count of days he’s been without a job has surpassed 900. Kaepernick last played on January 1st, 2017, in a loss against the Seahawks.
