Report: Cole Beasley asking for $20M guaranteed

It’s no secret that the New Orleans Saints need an upgrade at wide receiver, and Dallas Cowboys slot specialist Cole Beasley makes a ton of sense for them. However, his price range could be too rich for their blood. Per Clarence Hill Jr. of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Beasley is demanding $20 million in guarantees on his next contract. The Cowboys are balking at that.

Such a number would place Beasley high among the NFL’s veteran receivers, creating a tie with DeSean Jackson and Emmanuel Sanders for 13th in the league. In 2018, Sanders set the bar at 72.3 receiving yards per game. Jackson averaged 64.5 receiving yards per game. Beasley posted a respectable, if unimpressive, 42-yard average.

So why would the Saints have interest in Beasley, even at that price tag? Outside of Michael Thomas, none of their receivers broke the 42-yard mark in yards per game. Ted Ginn Jr. came close at 41.8, but everyone else sat at the bottom of a cliff from that dropoff. Rookies Tre’Quan Smith (28.5) and Keith Kirkwood (26.1) left plenty to be desired. There’s plenty of room available in the Saints offense for a serious slot star like Beasley.

But maybe not at a price tag including $20 million in guarantees.
