Report: Clippers Montrezl Harrell wins NBA 6th Man of the Year

Montrezl Harrell of the Los Angeles Clippers will soon be rewarded for his play as the best 6th Man in the NBA this season. Shams Charania of The Athletic reported on Friday afternoon that Harrell will be awarded the 6th Man of the Year award, beating out his teammate Lou Williams and Oklahoma City’s Dennis Schröder.

Harrell will break a streak of nine seasons in which guards won the 6th man of the year award. The last frontcourt player to win 6MOY was Lamar Odom in 2011. And since Harrell has played all of his minutes this season at center, according to Basketball-Reference, Harrell breaks an extensive drought for centers in this award, becoming the first center since Roy Tarpley to win the award in 1988.

Harrell and his Los Angeles Clippers appear to be holding up their end of the bargain in creating the L.A.-L.A. showdown many are hoping for against the Lakers. The Lakers get their chance to move closer to the Conference Finals tonight when they play Harrell’s former team, the Houston Rockets.
