Report: Christian McCaffrey won’t practice today due to shoulder injury

According to a report by Ian Rapoport at NFL Network, Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey will not practice today after suffering a shoulder injury late in Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs. Rapoport has also reported that McCaffrey may have to miss time with the injury.

This is another unfortunate development for a team that’s been snake-bitten this season with injuries. McCaffrey had literally just returned to the lineup after a six-week stint on IR with a high ankle sprain. He balled out against Kansas City, posting two touchdowns and 151 yards from scrimmage.

We will keep an eye on McCaffrey’s status throughout the week. The first injury report will be coming out later today. Obviously it’s too early to call yet, but if he is ruled out the team will turn to Mike Davis to start.

In nine games this year Davis has totaled 353 rushing yards and two touchdowns while averaging 4.2 yards per carry. His traditional numbers don’t do his play justice, though. Davis has been fantastic at making defenders miss in space, totaling 14 broken tackles as a rusher. That’s helped him reach 255 yards after contact. Davis has also thrived as a receiver, catching 43 of 49 targets (87.8%) and forcing another 10 misses. He’s totaled 319 yards after catch already.
