Report: Chris Paul expected to start season with Thunder

When the Oklahoma City Thunder acquired 34-year old All-Star Chris Paul from the Houston Rockets in exchange for franchise icon Russell Westbrook, it was widely assumed that Paul would also then be shipped out. After all, the Thunder are not currently in a position to seriously contend for a title anymore and the team is beginning to rebuild.

There were early discussions that Paul would be sent to the Miami Heat and that the Thunder would listen to trade offers, but it seems as if that idea has changed.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Thunder have seemingly parked the idea of trading Paul and he will start the season with the team at least. With it being so deep into free agency and every team almost set, it would be tough to trade him now.

Paul averaged 15.6 points and 8.2 assists with the Rockets in 2018-19 and he can bring a veteran presence to what is shaping up to be a young team. He still has 3-years and $123 million left on his contract and it seems as if the Thunder will need to wait a bit before they can trade him for more assets.
