Report: Chris Harris may sign revised contract with Broncos today

After skipping the first two weeks of the Broncos’ organized team activities, cornerback Chris Harris may have a revised contract in time for the start of the final week of OTAs on Wednesday.

Harris and Denver are “extremely close” to coming to an agreement and both sides hope a deal will get done today, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. The revised contract is not expected to add any years to Harris’ current contract — it will simply be a pay raise for the 2019 season.

After signing his revised deal, Harris will still be scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in 2020. If the Broncos don’t plan to re-sign Harris next spring, this season will mark the CB’s final season in Denver.

Before signing a new deal, Harris is set to earn $8.8 million this year. His new salary will likely top $11 million, which is what new defensive back Kareem Jackson averages on his three-year deal with the Broncos.

A four-time Pro Bowler, Harris is widely considered one of the best slot CBs in the NFL. Fans in Denver will be happy to see him stick around to play in Vic Fangio’s defense, although it is a bit disappointing that the two sides weren’t able to work out a multi-year extension.
