Report: Chiefs trade CB Mark Fields to Vikings

The Kansas City Chiefs haven’t traded for a cornerback, but instead, they traded away a cornerback.

According to NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero, the Chiefs have sent undrafted free agent CB Mark Fields to the Minnesota Vikings. It’s not yet clear what the Chiefs will receive in return, but it likely won’t be more than a late-round draft pick or a player swap.

Fields joined the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent following the 2019 NFL draft. Many were shocked when the former Clemson Tiger wasn’t drafted. He showed off his talents in last year’s college football national title game with two passes defended against the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Fields had a steady preseason up until Week 4, where he completely collapsed against the Green Bay Packers. He was in a position to make a lot of plays during the game but drew multiple penalty flags.

Preseason sideline reporter Todd McShay had an open mic during the Chiefs’ broadcast of the game and was heard describing Andy Reid’s displeasure in Fields. McShay was heard saying, “Let’s just say that No. 26 doesn’t have a spot on the roster.” For the Chiefs to turn around and trade Fields is pretty cunning for Brett Veach.

Update: The Chiefs will receive a 2021 seventh-round draft pick in exchange for Fields.
