Report: Chiefs to host Houston LB Emeke Egbule on top-30 visit

The Chiefs will have at least one visitor at 1 Arrowhead Drive tomorrow.

According to KC Star beat writer Brooke Pryor, Houston Cougars LB Emeke Egbule is taking a pre-draft visit with the Chiefs on Tuesday. Egbule had a solid performance at the combine and at his pro day. He ran a 4.65 40-yard dash, benched 20 repetitions of 225, but didn’t have great numbers in the 3-Cone or short shuttle.

Egbule project as a SAM linebacker in the NFL. At 6-foot-2 and 245 pounds, he can line up off the ball or play on the line of scrimmage and get after the quarterback. He’s shown quite the versatile skill set while playing for the University of Houston. In 2018, Egbule accumulated 69 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, two interceptions, five passes defended, four fumble recoveries, and two forced fumbles.

The Chiefs added linebacker Damien Wilson on a one-year contract in free agency and he’s currently slated to play SAM linebacker for the Chiefs. That isn’t a permanent solution though, and the Chiefs will likely take a look at some help in the 2019 NFL draft. Egbule could certainly be that solution for the Chiefs. His productivity in coverage, the ground game, and as a pass-rusher lends itself to Steve Spagnuolo’s defense.

Egbule is the sixth top-30 visit that has been reported. We’ve already broke down a handful of pre-draft visitors the Chiefs have had in Kansas City. You can check those out here.
