Report: Chiefs reach ‘verbal agreement’ on contracts with all six draft picks

It didn’t take long for the Kansas City Chiefs to get contracts done with their rookie draft class.

According to a report from Yahoo Sports’ Terez Paylor, the Chiefs have come to a verbal agreement with all six of their draft picks from the 2020 NFL Draft. Right now, the only thing preventing them from being under contract is the fact that they’ve yet to take physicals with the team.

Rookies are scheduled to report to training camp on Monday. The physicals are currently scheduled to happen on Wednesday, only after players have cleared two consecutive COVID-19 tests on Monday and Tuesday per Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. Expect official announcements on signed contracts to come later this week after their physicals.

As of this morning, the Chiefs have $6.1 in salary cap space according to the NFLPA’s public salary cap report. That should be more than enough to sign the rookie class in Kansas City.

Here’s a reminder of the draft picks who can now officially be considered rookies in Kansas City:

Round Position Player School
Round 1, 32 Overall RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire LSU
Round 2, 63 Overall LB Willie Gay Jr. Mississippi St.
Round 3, 96 Overall OT Lucas Niang TCU
Round 4, 138 Overall CB L’Jarius Sneed LA Tech
Round 5, 177 Overall DE Mike Danna Michigan
Round 7, 237 Overall CB Thakarius ‘BoPete’ Keyes Tulane
