Report: Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes suffered right patella dislocation

The initial indication from the replay of Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ injury appears to be spot on.

According to a new report from NFL Network’s James Palmer, Mahomes dislocation his right patella, or kneecap, against the Denver Broncos on Thursday night.

Palmer reports there was no accompanying break, which is good news; however, there could be ligament damage, so Mahomes will need to have an MRI. That will likely be scheduled once he returns from Denver to Kansas City.

Early indications seem to be that Mahomes has perhaps avoided the worst-case scenario. If there is no ligament damage or even a sprain, he likely won’t need to miss a significant amount of time.

Knowing Mahomes, if the MRI comes back in his favor, he’ll probably want to be out there as early as next week playing against the Packers on Sunday night in Week 8. He’s already proven his toughness by playing through an ankle injury. I’d like to hope that if he avoids major injury, someone would be able to talk him into taking a week to rest and recover.
