Report: Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes’ MRI reveals no significant additional damage

The Kansas City Chiefs have the results on quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ MRI, and the news is encouraging.

According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the MRI confirmed that Mahomes suffered a dislocated kneecap; however, the accompanying damage was not significant. That suggests there were no ligament tears that would require surgical intervention and that this won’t be a season-ending injury.

Mahomes is set to seek additional opinions on his knee in order to make the most educated decision possible, but obviously, this seems like the best-case scenario. It’s possible that Mahomes returns after only a brief absence, as Rapoport says.

This morning, Rapoport reported an optimistic timeline for recovery: that Mahomes would potentially only miss three weeks before returning to game action. It’s not clear if these MRI results change the potential timeline at all but it seems like Mahomes has escaped this scare without a major injury.

On Andy Reid’s conference call, which occurred shortly after Rapoport’s latest report, he didn’t provide an update on Hill’s injury; instead, he said the Chiefs were still awaiting the results of the MRI. So it’s still a waiting game to know for certain with Mahomes and his injury.
