Report: Chiefs practice squad QB Jordan Ta’amu tests positive for COVID-19

COVID-19 hasn’t just struck the New England Patriots and QB Cam Newton this morning.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Chiefs have their own positive COVID-19 test this morning. Practice squad quarterback Jordan Ta’amu has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be added to the reserve list according to Rapoport.

While Ta’amu wasn’t expected to play in this game, his positive test is notable. Last week, Ta’amu simulated Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson for the scout team in practice. One can assume that in preparation for another mobile quarterback in Patriots quarterback Cam Newton, Ta’amu was likely also the scout team quarterback for the Chiefs this past week.

While there is some concern, of course, for any contact with Chiefs star QB Patrick Mahomes, team meetings have been in most cases virtual for Kansas City. The players that played against Ta’amu in practice would likely need to isolate until they receive a negative test result.

The NFL has already announced that that they’ve postponed the Week 4 contest between the Chiefs and Patriots. They intend for the game to be played later this week, but that remains to be seen.
