Report: Chiefs-Patriots to go on as scheduled after no new positive tests

The Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots Week 4 game will go on as scheduled on Monday, Oct. 5 at 6:05 p.m. CT, following no new positive COVID-19 tests.

After each team turned up a positive case late in the week, tests from Saturday, Sunday and Monday morning revealed no new positive COVID-19 cases for either the Patriots or the Chiefs according to multiple reports. That’s exactly what the NFL needed to keep this game on track to be played on Monday night. Even with the game having been rescheduled for Monday night it was always pending no further positive COVID-19 test results. For now, the two positive tests for both New England and Kansas City appear to be isolated incidents.

This news is also what the league needed to give the Patriots the go-ahead to travel. Right now New England’s players and staff are currently on a pair of planes, en route to Kansas City. They’re expected to arrive at Arrowhead Stadium by midday.

It’s also great news all-around for the NFL, as they already have one COVID-19 outbreak on their hands in Tennessee. That outbreak seems to be an aberration. If the Chiefs and Patriots are any indications, the protocols in place to protect players and staff from the rampant transmission of the virus appear to be working.

With a little luck involved, perhaps this will be the last time we see a game rescheduled for Kansas City due to COVID-19. If anything it’s taught everyone to stay on their toes and play every game as if it could be their last.
