Report: Chiefs LG Andrew Wylie believed to have suffered ankle sprain vs. Colts

A bit of good news on the injury front for the Kansas City Chiefs this morning.

Chiefs’ starting left guard Andrew Wylie left the game with an ankle injury late against Indianapolis. He was the last of five total players to leave the game with an injury. According to one report, it appears that Wylie escaped without suffering a significant injury.

Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that Wylie received X-ray imaging on his injured ankle, which is standard with most ankle injuries. The results of that imaging came back negative, suggesting that Wylie suffered an ankle sprain.

Pelissero added that Wylie would receive more tests but the early indications are good for the second-year player.

Wylie has been a starter for the Chiefs in the past 17 games at either right or left guard. He’s started at LG for the entirety of the 2019 season.

In Wylie’s absence, it was second-year UDFA offensive guard Ryan Hunter who came into the game. He wasn’t as effective as Wylie, letting up multiple pressures and getting called for a penalty during the course of the game. Combined with Cameron Erving’s struggles it made for a very battered left side of the offensive line.

An ankle sprain for Wylie could mean a return to action as early as this upcoming week depending on the severity of the sprain. We’ll just have to see how he does as the practice week progresses.
